After years as a nurse specializing in hospice, I found myself turning more and more to nature and my creative practice for solace. With a history of anxiety and depression, I found creative flow slowed my thoughts and allowed me time to pause and relax. Time spent in nature and time creating allowed me to experience and express emotions and needs in a way that words did not allow. Collage was my entry point to creativity because the materials were easily accessible and cutting, pasting and mark making are very meditative. Art journaling was a way to put my feelings and emotions on paper and lead to experimentation with mixed media and painting. As I grew, I became interested in more and more creative areas, including junk journaling, book making and stitching. I began to troll markets and thrift stores for vintage books, papers and eventually vintage lace and fabrics for my creations. Art, for me, became calming and grounding. As time has passed, I have grown as an artist and my artistic expression has evolved. I find my works are reflective of my growing inner peace and have become more joyful. As I continue the journey of my creative practice, I am wanting to combine all my creative loves into works centered around the beauty and healing that nature offers. It is my hope that my art will bring joy to others who need and deserve a pick-me-up. With much love!
